This Week at Newman – December 8

Monday, December 8, 2014 is a Holy Day of Obligation: The Feast of the Immaculate Conception, the Patron of the United States of the America. The Mass schedule for December 8 is: 8:00 AM, 12:15 PM, and 5:15 PM. Morning and Evening Prayer will start at their usual times, 7:30 AM and 5:00 PM, respectively.

We invite you to participate in this year’s Jesse Giving Tree which will benefit Primavera and Stand Up For Kids. In keeping with the Advent Season, we will use the Jesse Tree and symbols as a way to remind ourselves that the Advent season is a time to prepare for the Christmas season. The symbols are labeled with a ‘wish gift’ for a boy, girl, mother, father, or teenager. Please take a symbol and return the gift by Mon., Dec. 15. The gifts do not need to be wrapped. The genealogy of Christ (based on Matthew 1:1-17) is frequently shown in the form of a tree which springs from Jesse, the father of David, and bears as its fruit the various ancestors of Christ. This “family tree” of Christ, has ornament symbols of an ancestor or of a prophecy which foretells Jesus’ coming. As we enter the Advent Season, a season of joyful anticipation, let us pray for one another and keep in mind God’s wondrous love.

If you are receiving a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree or Doctorate this semester, we would like to honor you at the 5:00 PM Baccalaureate Mass on Sunday, December 14. Please leave your name and information with the office by calling 327-4665.
