This Week at Newman – April 19

Bishop Gerald F. Kicanas has scheduled a Listening Session on Marriage and Family here at the Newman Center for Sunday, April 19, from 2:00-4:00 pm in the Main Chapel. At this session he would especially like to hear from the younger set: the recently married, young families, and single college students. However, we encourage all who are interested to attend this opportunity tell the Bishop your concerns about the upcoming Synod on the Family, to be held at the Vatican in Rome, and to hear perspectives on the pressures and stresses in our society and the Church on issues related to marriage and family life.

The Sustaining Board will serve a wonderful Enchilada Dinner in Green Hall on Sunday, April 26 at 6:00 pm following the 5 pm Mass. Come eat, drink, and be merry! All students are invited to attend! The meal is free of charge and a great opportunity to fellowship with other Newman students.

Please join us for a fun evening of entertainment at the Skyline Country Club, Saturday, May 2 from 6 pm to 11 pm. There will be fine dining, casino games, silent auction and some giveaways including 1.5 karat diamond earrings and $500 store gift, a 2-night stay and brunch at the Hacienda del Sol Resort, and a flat-screen television. The evening is hosted by the Newman Center Sustaining Board and all proceeds go to the Newman Center and for scholarships! Tickets are $75.00. For information, contact Jody Slania, 591-1895.
Parents of Newman Center students are encouraged to attend this important fundraiser for the Newman Center!

If you are receiving a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree or Doctorate, we would like to honor you at the 5:00 PM Baccalaureate Mass on Sunday, May 10. Please email your name and information to Susan or call 327-4665.

The San Martin de Porres Chapter of the Dominican Laity is offering an ongoing Bible Study. We will be studying Genesis, the first book in God’s love letter to humanity. The study will be held every Saturday from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm in the Newman Center Classroom.
We hope to see you there!

Endow Sessions for women will continue to meet on Thursdays after the 5:00 PM Mass. Join the discussion on the topic of St. Pope John Paul II’s “Letter to Women”. Meet in the classroom. All women are invited. For more information contact Michele.

We are still in need of volunteers for upcoming trips to Primavera Men’s Shelter. If you are not familiar, we meet at the Newman Center at 4 am to prepare breakfast for the Primavera Men’s Shelter here in Tucson and usually return by 6:30 am. The next date is May 10. Please contact Andy or call him at (956) 458-7588 if you are interested in volunteering.
